STEAM Week: Day Five

Today we finished teaching the second batch of 38 middle school students. This batch completed their round of stations which included working with tablets, working with microscopes, and practicing math.

Overall, this was a very rewarding experience for the students, the teachers, and ourselves. 73 children of Lumbisi, Ecuador learned a new side to technology, science, mathematics, engineering, and arts. This experience was completely new for both the students and teachers as we were able to show them that there is more to learning than textbooks and lectures.

Just as we were stepping out the gates of the school, the vice chancellor requested that we step onto the school's stage in front of all the parents and students (around 500 people). The principal delivered a speech showing his gratefulness for our donations and our time. Not only did we receive recognition from the administrator, including English teachers and the secretary, but we also received gratitude from some of our students. These students took time out of their busy and hectic lives to make us gifts including letters and artwork.

We are extremely grateful for the opportunity given to us by FEVI Ecuador as well as the school, Colegio Profesor Pedro Echeverria Teran.
