STEAM Week: Day Four

Today we taught a group of 38 11-12 year-olds. While they needed more hand-holding, they were equally as engaged and attentive. In the beginning of our STEAM workshop, these kids had not even heard of a hypothesis and did not know the freezing point of water. By the end of the day, these students learned the scientific method, learned how to make ice cream, and became experts in their station of science, math, or technology. One of the students was so excited about his new microscope skills, that he ran outside, grabbed a whole plant, and came in to look at the leaves and flowers in the microscope. While teaching 38 11-12 year olds seemed like a daunting task, we ultimately gained their respect and were able to show them the world of STEAM.
